Early this January, a message addressed to Niz Goenkar, or the original Goan, rapidly circulated on social media across Goa. Posted by Justice Ferdino Rebello, former chief justice of the Allahabad High Court, it invited Goans to join the public meeting of the ‘Enough is Enough’ movement on January 6 at the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji.
His note seemed to spark a fiery resolve in Goans, who have been pushed to the brink by illegal construction, altered laws for outside investors, indiscriminate development, and unchecked environmental destruction in their state. To Justice Rebello’s surprise, the turnout at the event was beyond expectation. That day, the Enough is Enough movement took off with a bang.
