Women farmers have it tough. They work in the fields but they mostly do not have rights to the land they cultivate. Their names are invariably not included in land titles.

What this means is that they cannot access bank finance or draw benefits accruing to them under government schemes. They end up instead at the mercy of loan sharks when in need of assistance.
